Madison Keys Captures First Grand Slam Title at Australian Open
American Madison Keys triumphed over reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka to secure her maiden Grand Slam title.
Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked player, was vying for her third consecutive Australian Open crown. However, Keys delivered a stellar performance, taking the first set 6-3. Although she dropped the second set 6-2, Keys battled back to clinch the deciding set 7-5, earning the 29-year-old her first major championship in her second Grand Slam final appearance.
Seeded 19th, Keys extended her winning streak to 12 matches, including a remarkable semifinal upset over No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek.
With her victory, Keys becomes the first woman since Serena Williams in 2005 to defeat both of the WTA’s top two players at Melbourne Park.
